New Year & New Plans…

For many years, I have made resolutions and goals every new year, but each time, the goals remain as they are. I used to make some unrealistic resolutions for the new year, and subsequently forgot that I had made them. I procrastinate a lot; this is me. Actually, we don’t need any New Year’s Day or birthdays to make changes in our life; if you really wanted to reach your goal, you don’t have to wait till the new year comes. It can be started at any time. During my college years, my close friend and I set resolutions that from this new year onwards we would be like this… like that etc. But I don’t know how many times we even forgot about it.

Why is this happening…?Why is it so difficult to stay to the process..? When I analyzed myself, several causes I found were;

  1. It could be because the plans are not realistic to the current situation, or it does not align with who I want to become.
  2. It could arise from the assumption that I don’t have to start now; I can make a change at any time because I’m a superman and things goes well.
  3. Lack of patience, which cause exhaustion making it difficult to wait for results.
  4. Even before starting, the results overwhelm and makes me lose the concentration and focus. All this takes away the consistency. I have been thinking of starting this website for months. just thinking.. I have spent months thinking about creating a website. The idea is there, and all it takes is just a few hours. but it has taken me a long time to get started. This post was saved as a draft one and a half weeks ago, but I’m glad that I have just uploaded it at least today. Now I’m working on my mind trying various approaches to beat procrastination, as I’m a master procrastinator and never did my task consistently. The current approach I’m doing is that, I built an Excel page to track what all progress and changes have I brought. For this I have broken down the goals into small actionable steps and added them within the excel sheet’s columns for each month. when I fail to complete chores of any month, that box will remain in red color and green color for those box completed. For all task of red boxes that has not been finished, I evaluate why could not follow. For me It could be any of the reasons listed above. If you are someone like me, what is making you less consistent about your goals….?

  1. It’s inspiring to see your self-awareness and determination to tackle procrastination! Your approach of breaking down goals into smaller, actionable steps and tracking progress with an Excel sheet is a great strategy. I can relate to the struggle of staying consistent and often find myself overwhelmed by the end result before even starting. Your method of reflecting on why tasks remain incomplete is something I’ll definitely try. Keep going—your progress, no matter how small, is still progress! Let’s both work on beating procrastination, one step at a time.
